G’day everyone hope you all survived the storms on Thursday. The rain is still causing havoc up on the farm with everything struggling to grow.

We have more corn this week and i hope the crop will last till the next one, and we have a new crop of Romano Beans, other than that most things are in short supply.

Also on a bad note we might not have a stall at Taylor Sq next week as we are quickly running short in produce and might not have enough for 2 markets but i will put out a special blog mid week if that is the case, also check out our facebook page or twiter for more regular updates. Hope to see you tomorrow.

G’day everyone, how has this week been. I actually took 2 days off in a row, it also happened to be the 2 sunniest days this week.

New  this week we have green and yellow squash, no the green ones aren’t unripe squash but a heritage variety. These are great for stuffing or just simply steam them and serve.

Also the first persimmon. these are the most beautiful fruit you can buy. They are not quite ripe yet but if you have had these before you will know why, if not you need to wait until they are super ripe till you eat them.

Anyone who usually come to taylor sq markets don’t worry we will still be there as they wont close down the place till after we have gone so we will see you then.

G’day everyone. How good has this week been, a full week of sun and we finally got our seedlings so that we can get back to normal farming, (what ever that is).

We have a bit of a special surprise this week. Bunya nuts and warrigal greens, bit of a bush tucker theme going on this week,

First off this week the Bunya nuts, these are an almost wiped out tree due to the drying country and the shrinking rain forest. Its hard to explain what it looks like but kind of like a big pine cone crossed with a pineapple but when you get through the shell it is a large nut tasting similar to a chest nut. To get the nut out of the hard shell you need to either boil or rost and then crack the shell off.

The Warrigal greens on the other hand is easier to explain, it is a native spinach that you might have seen in beach vegetation.

Our Romano beans have come on really slow and now we will only have a few at taylor sq markets, hope we have more next week if the weather keeps up.

On a higher note we have been nominated for an award in the ABC Delicious produce awards for our edible weeds and the heritage beetroot. Dont know who nominated us but thanks, it is great to have people appreciate the odd or different produce and the effort we we go to grow them.

Come down and see us tomorrow and get some real aussie tucker and say g’day.

Gday everyone, how has your week been, we’ve been enjoying the sun this week as they say its not going to last for long. We did have a bit of an up and down week as we were ready to plant some new seedlings but the supplier couldn’t deliver till next week so a bit of catch up on the a little job like the endless weeding was done instead.

We do have some new produce and some that will be slowing down or not available this week.

We will start with the bad, cucumbers have almost been pulled out so they will slow down dramatically, but we have kept the gherkins, (which someone asked for last week) so their is plenty if you want them.

If you read the sydney morning herald you might have seen the recipe from Mickey Robertson making Sorrel soup, and being the only farmers that bring Sorrel to the growers market you will have to come and see us to get it.

Can anyone tell me what a Feijoa is. Most people from across the ditch (a kiwi) will know. Ours have just come in and can i say they are beauties. The flavour is aromatic, and i can only explain as a blended mix of an inviting comparison with guava, strawberry, pineapple, and often containing a faint wintergreen-like aftertaste. I stole that off the wikipedia but is the best way of saying it.

So if you need any more reasons to come and see us tomorrow than all i can say is ill be there, but seriously come and say gday and buy the freshest most local produce at the best 2 markets tomorrow.

G’day everyone. Firstly this week i would like to thank all of you that have written comments back to me, i do read them just not sure how to get them on to the blog for everyone to read. i will talk to Alice Champion as she set up this blog page. We are very great full for not having as much rain as last week although the few showers we have had just seem to saturate the land.

Nothing new this week but we are low on rocket salad and baby english spinach and the Spanish Onions have finished. The whole garlic cloves are starting to become less but wont know exactly how long as it depends on how many we sell.

The weather report is for very early showers and a fine day of 26 degrees so don’t be scared come out and support the local farmers at the markets.See you there.

G’day everyone, well not including today we had 100mm of rain, too wet for anything, but the weather man said it’s clearing.

You will need to get in early if you want duck eggs as the ducks are molting and slow down laying, it is also last week or two of purple beans. Now for the good news, the first pick of passion fruit, water melon, and wait for it continental cucumbers that aren’t shrink wrapped,(OOOOH).

I don’t usually get into the political side of things on here but we read something in the Melbourne Farmers Markets’ newsletter that i would like to share with you to say thank you and we appreciate your support.

“A pinch and  a punch for the first of the month…that’s what Coles think anyway, ‘let’s beat up the farmers’, they’ve said  to themselves. ‘We’ve laid waste to the dairy  farmers already, we’re half job done with the free range egg people, let’s go  after the fruit and vege grower’.

And the sorry news is they can and they have; they wrote the  book on it.

The only things standing in their way are farmers markets and  people who realise price doesn’t equal value. Value is about flavour,  it’s about freshness, it’s about shelf life, it’s about variety and that funny old thing called ethics. We are a small voice in the cacophony, but they will  hear us!”

G’day everyone, hope you all had a nice week. We have been trying out using the face book site more this week, look up champion mountain organics and click the like button, then you can have your say, ask a question, or even ask us to bring something you want in particular, like green tomatoes for your thai dish.

Welcome back Everligh market this week. hope you enjoyed your time off over christmas and the new year, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

One new produce this week, the chioggia beetroot is back, and i was serious about the cherry tomatoes, they go like hot cakes at a cwa meeting so get in early and come straight up to us before you miss out. We also have had a lot of great feedback on the super sweet juicy corn so we are bringing down more this week.

We have had a few request for loose garlic so i have split some up and will be selling some like that.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, its going to be a warm one, bye for now.

G’day all and welcome to 2012. Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Were starting off this year at Sydney Sustainable Markets at Taylor Square this saturday, so any Everligh customers please come over and see me (Lee) at Taylor Square on Oxford st and Forbes st with parking behind on Forbes or Bourke st.

Now the formalities are over and summer has started we have some fantastic new produce to kick off the first market.

Sweet corn, the juiciest corn with a lasting sweet flavor. Capsicums, these are the best around, the wholesalers are begging for these but we are only selling them at the markets for you. Cherry tomatoes, wow if you got to enjoy these last year you’ll be lined up before 8 am to get some more, these tomatoes were without a doubt the best selling produce we had last year, they were running out the markets.

Like last year we still have the Romano or Italian flat beans are in plenty, and zucchini by the box, and on the topic look out for Luke from Tetsuya restaurant who is coming down to pick up his Zucchinis.

All very exciting for a new start to a new year, i am also facebooking on the champion mountian organics facbook page so check us out and like our page and get some more information  on the day to day happenings on the farm. Come and see g’day and introduce yourself if your new, and grab the best produce around. Looking forward to seeing you this saturday.

G’day everyone. Well like all good things they must come to an end, and that includes this year. Its gone too quick.

There is no new produce this week, but we do have, (thanks to the weather) some baby lettuce. These have formed shape without growing to full size so you can get the freshest lettuce at its crispest taste, and its $1.50 each.

That is it this week, we hope to see all you customers that are left at the markets tomorrow and if not have a safe trip to where ever you are going and we wish you and your family and very merry christmas and a happy new year.

    Dear Friends and valued customers,

Well, you have all experienced the atrocious weather over the last few months and believe me it has been a very trying time producing enough to come to market each week. This week was no exception. Sunday morning was brilliant and I thought we’ll have plenty for next Saturday. But a solid dump of rain (flooding in some parts) and grey skies all weeks have not helped. BUT I FEEL CONFIDENT WE WILL HAVE A FULL RANGE NEXT WEEK.

ROCKET, WILD ROCKET, BABY SPINACH, LIMES, AND PLENTY OF MESCLUN AND SPICY SALAD.

Be early next week to ensure you don’t miss out and to be certain of your Xmas fare from us please ORDER FOR NEXT WEEK and we will put it aside.

Wishing you all a very enjoyable Christmas and a good rest, (if like me you need one)

    Very best wishes

    Michael Champion
